Sabemos que nace en Zea, estado Mérida, el 14 de junio de 1898. Es el tercer hijo de Giuseppe y de María, una pareja de inmigrantes toscanos que habían llegado al país seis años antes, huyendo de una terrible epidemia de filoxera.
